Artist Statement

Making my art is an expression from the soul that awakens and expands my feeling of connection with the world. My photographs are abstractions of reality—thus becoming realities of their own—visions that reveal my responses to and connections with the world. They are not photographs of the particular things seen as much as they are of intuitive expressions inspired by reality, whether in the natural or the man-made world, and made manifest through an 8x10-inch view camera. My interest is in the rhythms and tensions created by use of space and tones within the chosen edges, thus revealing rhythms that are musical and tensions that stimulate movement—eye movement and emotional movement.

The literalness of a subject is but the surface—a starting point. When making my pictures, I seem to be responding that common movement shared by all living things—responding to the vibrations inside myself and the subject where I feel a deep and natural connection.
